Breakthrough Cornea Transplant Performed for the First Time in the Region

April 13, 2009

Kremer’s cornea specialist, Michael Aronsky, M.D., has teamed up with James S. Lewis, M.D., to provide the latest in Corneal Transplantation, called IEK. Together they performed the first IEK cornea transplant surgery in the region on April 13, 2009 in Kremer’s King of Prussia ambulatory surgery center.

According to Dr. Aronsky, “From a patient’s perspective, the visual recovery time may be the most significant difference about IEK” – recovery from conventional cornea transplant surgery can take up to one year, whereas IEK patients have recovered functional vision as early as a few months.

This collaboration makes Aronsky and Lewis the first surgeons in the Delaware Valley to bring the IntraLase™ Femtosecond Laser technology to corneal replacement surgery. Dr. Lewis is a well-recognized corneal surgeon and Dr. Aronsky is one of the top IntraLase surgeons in the country. Together they have pooled their resources to provide the top subspecialty corneal care in the region.
