• Cornea transplants can restore vision, reduce and alleviate pain, and improve the appearance of a damaged or diseased cornea.

  • Cornea transplants are typically performed on an outpatient basis.

  • A cornea transplant is the most common and successful transplant operation performed in the United States.

  • Kremer Eye Center’s fellowship-trained corneal specialists were the first in the region to perform sutureless corneal transplants.

Surgical Treatment

Corneal transplants remove the damaged area of the cornea and replace it with a clear corneal tissue from a donor. Kremer Eye Center’s fellowship-trained corneal specialists were the first in the region to perform sutureless corneal transplants and, more recently, have become the first in the tri-state area to utilize IEK laser technology (IntraLase-enabled Keratoplasty). This technology provides a more stable graft that speeds patient healing and visual recovery. Over 40,000 corneal transplants are performed each year in the United States, making it by far the most common and successful form of transplantation.
