INTACS®

INTACS® are clear corneal rings that provide an alternative to laser vision correction for patients with a mild myopia (nearsightedness). They are made of a special biocompatible plastic that has been safely used in contact lenses and cataract surgery for nearly 50 years. The rings are developed to provide rapid visual improvement and can be removed or changed should your refractive error change. INTACS may be considered when dealing with certain abnormalities of the eye, such as keratoconus — a degenerative condition caused by a protrusion of the cornea and irregular astigmatism. For patients with keratoconus, INTACS may eliminate or delay the need for a corneal transplant.
